November 9, 1907 ~ July 8, 2009 (age 101)


Louise Smth Denton, 101, of Sebring passed away at the Palms Healthcare Center in Sebring. She had been a patient there since July, 2000. She was born November 9, 1907 in Dothan, Alabama. She is survived by on daughter, Ane M. Hoffman of Sebring. Two grandsons, John A Hoffman of Virginia Beach, VA and David W. Mitchell of Roanoke, VA. One granddaughter, Patricia Louise Hunter of Roanoke, V; two great grandchildren, Alicia Nicole and Catlin R. Hunter of Roanoke, VA. She was born to Julian M. Smith and Texie A (Bell) Smith. Her father later became the youngest man at age 18 to serve as a railroad engineer. She was always proud of that achievement. Her mother was a nurse. Louise attended boarding school for girls in Macon, Georgia. Louise later moved to Roanoke, VA where she was a secretary at American Viscose Corp, and married her supervisor. She once took piano lessons, the teacher told her parents that she did not need lessons because she played so well. They had two children. Later she moved to Sebring to stay with her parents. Louise was a substitute teacher in early life, served in many organizations and the Oddfellows/Rebekah Lodge for many years. She was also President of the PTA for years. She belonged to the First United Methodist Church where she was a teacher and class president.She was active in the Salvation Army Home League. A Memorial service will be held Thursday, July 16 at 2:30 PM at the Morris Funeral Chapel.
