Charles W. Nelson, 92, of Sebring FL, formerly of Lincoln and Springfield, IL, passed away peacefully at Good Shepherd Hospice in Sebring, FL on Friday October 21, 2022.
 
Chuck was born on October 5, 1930 in Virginia, IL. the son of Charles L. and Sarah (Creason) Nelson. He grew up in Middletown, IL. and was a graduate of Middletown High School. He married Eleanor J. Thompson on September 1, 1956 in Springfield, IL and she preceded him in death on September 6, 2016. Chuck moved to Sebring, FL in October 2020.
 
Chuck is survived by two children, Mark Nelson of Springfield, IL and Marilyn Spencer (Craig Fout) of Sebring, FL. His greatest joy was being a Pops - Pop Pop to his grandchildren, Stephanie Spencer and Allie Nelson of Springfield, IL and grandson Shane (Katherine) Spencer Sebring, FL and 2 Great granddaughters Jenna Acres and Grace Spencer.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, and four brothers, Gene, Ben, Wayne, and David and his loving in-laws, Fred and Allie Thompson.
 
Chuck was a Korean War Veteran and was employed for several years at Lehn & Fink and later retired from the State of Illinois. He was a member of Eastview Baptist Church in Springfield, IL and an avid Cub and Illinois Basketball fan. He remained in close contact with his lifelong friend Bob Whiteman of 80+ years up until his death. Chuck was known for being quite the talker and loved to socialize with anyone who would listen. He one of the kindest, happy Gentlemen you could ever meet and he was best known for always smiling.
 
Chuck and Eleanor both chose to be cremated and will be returned to Springfield to be buried together in Camp Butler National Cemetery at a later date.
