Donald McClelland, born July 6, 1951, in Sebring, Florida, was raised in Lorida, Florida, where his family were among the early settlers. He passed away on April 29, 2026, in Live Oak, Florida.
Donald was a proud graduate of Sebring High School, Class of 1970. He spent his life working hard and doing what he loved most, especially spending time outdoors hunting and fishing, where he found his greatest peace and joy.
He was preceded in death by his father, Solomon Joseph “Joe” McClelland; his mother, Nola Jeri (Johnson) Pettit; his stepfather, Donald Pettit; and his brothers, William “Bill” McClelland and Joey McClelland.
Donald is survived by his children, Tina (John) Gottus, Donald McClelland, and Adam (Lisa Smith) McClelland. He is also survived by Peggy McClelland, with whom he shared his children. He leaves behind eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his siblings, Ray (Julia) McClelland, Dennis McClelland, Doug McClelland, Mike (Shelly) Pettit, and Donna (Tommy) Pittman; a cousin who was like a brother, Barry Johns; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members, all of whom he loved dearly.
Donald shared nearly 30 years with his partner, Marlene “Marty” Boney. He had much love to give and cared deeply for Marlene’s children and grandchildren.
Donald dedicated many years of his life to his work. He was a skilled butcher by trade and served as a meat market manager at Thriftway Grocery Store in Sebring, Florida, as well as at Bubba’s IGA in Lake Placid, Florida. During his time in the grocery business, he also enjoyed working as a cowboy, day working and staying connected to his agricultural roots. After his time in the grocery business, he co-opened a local meat shop with partners.
He later returned fully to agriculture, managing a tree farm for Hidden Acres Nursery and working at South Ridge Tree Farm, where he helped dig a pond that is still known today as “Donald’s Pond.” He finished his career in Live Oak, Florida, managing large poultry operations.
Donald will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love for the outdoors, and the quiet joy he found in life’s simple moments. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
