GREER, HELEN J. WEINEL, 86, a lifelong Sebring resident, went to be with her Lord on January 29, 2017. Helen was born in Sebring, daughter of the late Jamie M. and Ruby (Davis) Whitaker. A graduate of Sebring High School and Jones Business College, Jacksonville, FL., Helen owned and operated the former "Corner Casuals", a ladies clothing store in the Southgate Shopping Center, for over 10 years. She was a former secretary for Warren Funeral Home (now Morris Funeral Chapel), then office manager for Dr. Gary Montsdeoca, MD. In the mid 1970's, Helen founded "Granny Greer's Jams and Jellies", selling over 21 flavors of homemade jams, jellies & fruitcakes for 40 years. She loved traveling, sewing, & cooking and was renowned for her dessert making prowess and her love of sweets! Helen was also known by her bright smile and warm greeting for everyone she encountered. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, Sebring. Helen was preceded in death by brothers, Jean and Jerry Whitaker; sister, Jamie Edge and son, James Weinel. She is survived by her husband, Martin W. Greer; son Kenneth L. Weinel, Jr both of Sebring; daughter, Joyce Ann (Gary) Gunter, Tampa, FL; Step-children, Martin J. Greer, Wilbur Wade Greer, Homer C. Greer, Anita K. Oleson, Railene Lynn Taylor, Cynthia Holland, Tonette Novel and Allen Ray Greer; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will always be loved and greatly missed by her family and friends. The family will receive friends 10:00 am Saturday, Feb. 4th with a service to follow at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church with Dr. Matthew Crawford and Dr. Allen Higginbotham. Memorials may be made to the Whitaker Scholarship Fund at First Baptist Church, Sebring. Morris Funeral Chapel, Sebring, FL.
