Helen Rae Wing

June 6, 1943 — May 14, 2024

Sebring

Helen Rae Wing was born June 6, 1943 in Grand Rapids, MI.  She was raised in a Christian home and gave her life to Jesus Christ at age five. While in high school, she gave her future to the Lord for whatever He wanted her to be. Following graduation from Cedarville College with a degree in Elementary Education, and teaching in a public school for a couple years she was introduced to the ministry of Missionary Kids’ Education. God Called her to Forteleza, Brazil. Throughout Helen’s years in Brazil, she faithfully and joyfully served the Lord teaching  tirelessly and enthusiastically at Fortaleza Academy.  Many missionary kids learned to read and write in Miss Wing’s first and second grade classroom.  Choirs in the elementary school and high school were taught by Helen.  The beautiful musical programs they presented were a highlight of each year.

Several high school students have fond memories of traveling on the gospel team with Helen driving a VW van taking them to interior churches to minister in music and testimony on a weekend.

Many churches in Fortaleza benefitted much from Helen’s faithful ministry in establishing music programs – teaching piano and always leaving a choir in place in each church.  Our Brazilian brethren greatly appreciated Dona Helena’s ministry.

In 2009 the academy closed and Helen returned to the United States seeking another avenue of ministry. In July of 2010, she joined the staff of Editorial Bautista Independiente (EBI) as the Assembly Room Coordinator in charge of the volunteer staff.

Helen went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on May 14, 2024.  She is survived by her sister Mary Hobson and Niece and Nephews Phil Hobson II, Allison (Shane) Hullender and Paul (Tara) Hobson, and grandniece Promyss Hullender. Helen will be remembered for her love of and sacrificial service to Christ, her musical gifts, and how she touched so many lives throughout her life and ministry. She exemplified the fruit of the Spirit as mentioned in Galatians 5:22a, “But the fruit of the Spirit is Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control.”

A memorial service will be held at 4PM Monday, May 20th, 2024 at Southside Baptist Church. The family will receive friends beginning at 3PM prior to the service

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to EBI, 3417 Kenilworth Blvd., Sebring, FL 33870
