SHANKS, LOIS JANE, 95 of Sebring died May 2, 2012 at the Palms of Sebring. She was born in Merino, Colorado to John and Lefa (Brammer) Ramsey. She was raised in southern Iowa where her father was a farmer. She had polio when she was a child and missed most of a year of school. Because of the help of her mother and sisters, she caught up with her peers and graduated from high school at age 16. Her late husband of 54 years, Rev Martin Rea Shanks, was in Belfast, N Ireland and was a GARBC pastor in New York, Iowa, South Dakota and New Jersey. She supported him by teaching Sunday School and playing the piano and organ. He died on October 29, 1989. She moved to Maranatha Village in 1978 with her husband. Her love for the outdoors was obvious as she rode around Maranatha Village on her race carscooter twice a day. Lois has always had a positive, can-do attitude and a love for the Lord who saved her. She was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church in Sebring. In addition to her parents and husband, she is also predeceased by her siblings, Rosamond Ramsey, Wilma Foland, Phyllis Bowe and Hazel Shields. She is survived by her children, William Rea (Janice Hall) Shanks, New Lenox, IL, Robert Maynard (Bonnie Plantholt) Shanks, Loveland, CO, Mary Joyce (Wesley) Hodgins, Anniston, AL and Daniel Lee (Lynne Thurston) Shanks of Oneonta, NY., fifteen grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Maranatha Baptist Church. Private Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
