Lucy Violet Chapman

October 22, 1926 — June 29, 2024

Sebring

Lucy Violet Jones Chapman of Sebring, Florida was born October 22, 1926, in Stamford, CT to Irving and Alida Jones. She peacefully entered the presence of the Lord on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the age of 97. She was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband, Joseph C. Chapman in 2017 after 70 1/2 years of marriage, her siblings: Richard (Lois, who survives) Jones, Juanita Adams, Geraldine (Cliff) Sloat, Nancy (Carl) Sell, Betty Ann Jones, and Priscilla (Bruce) Anderson. She was also preceded in death by one grandson, Samuel J Kirtland, great-granddaughter, Audrey Ann Huffstutler, and grandson-in-law Matt Vosper. Lucy will be sorely missed by her children: Judy (Bill) Kirtland of Clearwater, Florida; Shirley (Tom) Kurz of Uniontown, Ohio; David (Linda) Chapman of Wickliffe, Ohio; and Diana (David) Conrad of Sebring, Florida. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Amy (Doug) Holtz, Beth Vosper, Mark (Tara) Chapman, Scott (Emily) Kirtland, Stephen (Lydie) Kirtland, Seth (Kathy) Kirtland, Rebecca (Michael) Wolff, Benjamin (Pamela) Kurz, Joel (Jessica) Kurz, Brian (Julie) Chapman, Sarah (Will) Powell, Carrie (Rollin) Mohler, Joseph (Samantha) Conrad, Heidi (Dan) Caldwell, Diana (Justin) Gorsline, Paul (Mel) Conrad, and Jonathan (Brittany) Kurz, as well as 44 great grandchildren (another one to arrive this month), 2 great-great granddaughters, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family and friends, all of whom she loved dearly. Lucy accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at an evangelistic meeting at her church when she was 12 years old. She faithfully served the Lord Jesus throughout her life, including the 38 years by her husband's side as a pastor's wife in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, and Ohio. Together they served the Lord for many years in musical ministry and various other capacities. Lucy often described her 35 years in Maranatha Village as a "taste of heaven on earth." Her Maranatha family meant a great deal to her, especially during the seven years she lived alone in her Daniel Rd villa. A memorial celebration in honor of Lucy Chapman will take place at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 8 at Maranatha Baptist Church in Sebring, Florida. A one-hour visitation will precede the service. The burial will be at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, July 9 at the National Cemetery in Sarasota, Florida. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be designated for support of Maranatha Manor through Maranatha Baptist Church.
