Margaret Louise Bryan Cherry

CHERRY, Margaret Louise Bryan, 92 went to her heavenly home on August 23, 2016. She was born on February 15, 1924 to Joseph Travis and Melvina Ament Bryan in Bowling Green, Florida. She spent most of her life in Hardee County.
Margaret graduated from Hardee High School in December 1941 and from Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida in 1951 with a degree in Christian Education. She also attended Emory University in Atlanta before moving to Jacksonville, Florida to assume the position of Director of Christian Education at Swaim Memorial Methodist Church.
After moving back to Lakeland to serve as Director of Christian Education at First United Methodist Church, Margaret became re-acquainted with a former high school classmate, James W. Cherry. Their ensuing marriage brought them back to Wauchula where she was employed by the Hardee County School Board for 28 years, 23 of which she was a first grade teacher.
Margaret was a loving, devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a special teacher and friend to the hundreds of children she taught in school, Sunday School and children's and adult choirs she either led or participated in. She never met a stranger and sweetly showed the love of God to all she met. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Wauchula.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, N.D. Bryan and her husband of 57 years, James W. Cherry. She is survived by her two daughters, Ann (Sam) Thompson of St. Augustine and Leah (Allen) Altvater of Wauchula, three grandchildren, Andrew Altvater, Katie Altvater and Graceanna Thompson.
Funeral services will be at First United Methodist Church of Wauchula on Monday, August 29, 2016 with Pastor Danielle Upton and Rev. Sam Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30AM till 11:00 AM.
