Ronald R. Flotow, 90, of Avon Park, Florida, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2026.
Ron was born on February 21, 1936, in Michigan City, IN, to the late Roy and Margaret (Pearson) Flotow. He was preceded in death by his sister Joan (Flotow) Houck, brother-in-law Robert Houck, brother-in-law Richard Cook and grandson Kyle Flotow.
He is survived by his wife, Louise (Peters) Flotow; three children, Mark (Bobbie) Flotow of LaPorte, Kelly Palmer of Michigan City, and Michelle (John) Steffen of Valparaiso; seven grandchildren, Ryan Flotow, Cory Flotow, Ty Flotow, Lauren (Kyle) Zima, Joshua (Bailey) Palmer, Kristen (Elliott) Sass, and Alex (Kaitlyn) Lesnik; his brother Donald (Laurie) Flotow; and his sister Sandra Cook.
Ron retired after a long career as a serviceman with NIPSCO before moving to Florida, where he eventually made his home in Avon Park. An avid golfer, Ron won many trophies for his talent on the course. He had a lifelong love for baseball, having pitched for the South Bend White Sox minor league team, and also spent years refereeing basketball games for Michigan City Area Schools. Prior to his move to Florida, Ron was an active member of the Michigan City Elks Lodge and the Michigan City Moose Lodge.
He was the love of Louise’s life and an amazing man. His love of life and laughter was infectious, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
