Max Allen Lanz

Max Allen Lanz was born on April 8, 1943 in Ionia County, Michigan to Max Adgate and Zelda Lanz.  He passed away on April 19, 2020 in Sebring, FL.  Max accepted Christ as his savior on his 13th birthday and later was baptized at the First Baptist Church of Portland, Michigan.

He received a Bachelor of Religious Education Degree in 1965 from Grand Rapids Baptist College, a Master of Divinity Degree from Grand Rapids Baptist Seminary in 1968 and a Doctor of Ministry Degree from Luther Rice Seminary in 1994.

He married Louise Mae Shissler on September 19, 1966 and they served as missionaries in Brazil for 37 years. Max served as director of a Bible College in the Amazon region for three years, as vice-director of the Curitiba Bible College for several years and as the administrator of a Master's Program for Brazilian pastors for 11 years. He established three churches in Brazil and taught undergraduate courses for 25 years. They retired from Baptist Mid-Missions in 2013 after 45 years of service. Max wrote two college level courses for EBI, the Spanish literature ministry of Baptist Mid-Missions.

In 2018 Max and Louise moved to the Maranatha Village in Sebring, Florida, where they enjoyed Christian fellowship with fellow residents.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Eleanor Potts. He is survived by his wife Louise. Also surviving are their three children; Pamela Joy (Rui) DeOliveira; Kimberly Kay Lanz; Michael Allen (Kimberly) Lanz; six grandchildren, Richard and Rodrick DeOliveira, Jonathan, Elisabeth, Gabrielle and Nicholas Lanz; and three brothers and two sisters.
